I recently bought an SSD for my old Apple computer. I updated the system from Snow Leopard to Yosemite as some applications requires a newer system.
Two weeks after I found that my FTDI chip (serial to USB converter) was faulty. Use another, same problem. After a quick loop with an oscilloscope, the reset signal was not good...
After a look on the internet, I found thah Apple now develops its own drivers but they which are faulty :/

So the workaround is to
- Disable Apple's driver by copy/pasting the following command in a terminal
- Reboot
- Install the driver from FTDI, which is signed in case you care about :)

Mac Os X Uninstall Ftdi Driver
I have never installed USB drivers before on a MAC. I downloaded and installed the FTDIUSBSerialDriver104105106.pkg, I assume it will work on 10.75. I also downloaded the D2xx driver but I am not having any luck installing it. Terminal commands are giving problems. Any advice or help with installation of the drivers would be appreciated. If you want to access an FTDI device directly on Mac OS X, your best bet is to set the VID/PID of your device to values which are not captured by either Apple's or FTDI's drivers. You can accomplish this using FTPROG on Windows, or ft232rprog on Mac OS X or Linux. (Note that this requires direct access to the FTDI device as well, so you will. FTDI Drivers and OS X Yosemite. With Mac OS 10.9 (Mavericks) and later, Apple has built their own version of the FTDI VCP driver into the operating system (AN134). However, there seems to be some conflict between drivers from FTDIchip.com and the ones inherent to Apple. Luckily, there is a solution to this problem, and it comes from FTDI directly.
